This video is a simple “quick-steps” guide on what individual Chinese people can to do to keep their cities clean in the face of rapid growth, urbanization and increasing environmental degradation. It encourages them to take their own initiative to improve the environmental quality of their cities and not to simply wait for others to solve these serious problems.
Suggestions include:
- drive less and take public transportation, cycle, and walk more.
- due to water shortages, use less water, particularly hot water, due to the energy required (ie. coal) to heat it.
- don’t litter, and place garbage and recyclables in respective receptacles around the cities. Minimize the use of plastic bags and products using excessive packaging, in order to reduce garbage.
- use less energy, as much as possible. (i.e. turn off unnecessary lights, use energy-efficient bulbs, etc...)
